Other Museum Center Features

3rd Floor Archives & Reseach Library:
50,000-item collection of rare books, manuscripts, photographs, Victorian-era artifacts and fine and decorative arts. (By appointment Only)

Energy-efficiency:
The entire structure is so environmentally sound that it is the first LEED-certified museum in the nation and the first LEED-certified building of any kind in Connecticut. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and is awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council. The Center's energy enhancements will result in an overall energy efficiency nearly 30 percent greater than a system designed to building code.

Materials:
Exterior and interior color scheme of the new facility coordinates with existing buildings. All-natural construction materials -- stone, brick, slate and marble -- were chosen to complement the Mark Twain House. The architects used a monochromatic color palette throughout so as not to compete with the polychromatic design of the Mark Twain residence.

Technology:
State-of-the art technologies and systems in the theater and classrooms support distance-learning, computer-aided research and vastly expanded audio-visual learning stations.
